Back to School

Seraphine project supporters, I have very exciting news!!!

We are officially up and running with my newest initiative of helping fund the education of girls living in Victoria Falls.

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to have major effects on the entire community of Victoria Falls. Although most are now vaccinated, the loss of tourism and growing financial crisis is endangering the futures of many high-achieving adolescents in this community. Without attending school, girls are more subject to abusive home situations and have low self-esteem with little hope for their futures. To help combat this crisis faced by several young women, I am fundraising to send girls back to school.

Thanks to some incredible support, we have already been able to pay school fees for three girls and I’m thrilled to announce that they are now attending school daily.

1. Thuba, my good friend whom I wrote about in my last blog post, “A Year in Thuba’s Eyes,” will soon begin to study for her last two exams in order to continue her education at a University level!

2. Thandekile is 19 years old and attends City College as a senior. She lives with her mom and siblings in Chinotimba Victoria Falls. Thandekile loves studying and wishes to be an advocate of girls and women’s rights as a lawyer. Click here to watch her thank you video!

3. Suku is in form 3 at Mosi Adventist High School. SK, as she is called by her friends, is a bubbly girl who lives with her mom at the Esikwahleni, otherwise known as the “Squatters camp,” in Victoria Falls. She loves dancing and her favorite subjects at school are math and accounting. Click here to watch her thank you video!

Feel free to check out the new page that I just created highlighting each girl we are hoping to support. If you are interested in making a donation, please contact me directly via email.

Attending and graduating high school will determine these girls’ futures, so as always any support is so vital and greatly appreciated!

Love,

Emily
